Polycomb-group proteins are well known for silencing <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hox_gene\">Hox genes<\/a> through modulation of chromatin structure during <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Embryonic_development\">embryonic development<\/a> in fruit flies (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drosophila_melanogaster\">Drosophila melanogaster<\/a><\/em>). They derive their name from the fact that the first sign of a decrease in PcG function is often a homeotic transformation of posterior legs towards anterior legs, which have a characteristic comb-like set of bristles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Cognimed:<\/strong> Polycomb is the reader of the inherited program.
